JRCN Boer Goats is owned & operated by James & Rose Shepard. We got started in 2007 and were crazy about these goats from the very first one. We are located at 4458 32nd st Grinnell Iowa just 4 miles from I-80. We are a family run operation on a small acreage and our hope is to just sell high quality Boer goats for showing and breeding stock. We get our name JRCN Boer Goats by combining our first initials James, Rose, Carroyl and Nikki.
We are members of the American Boer Goat Association, Iowa Meat Goat Association, of which Rose is a board member, Tall Corn Meat Goat Wether Association where James is a director.
We got started like a lot of people, we bought a couple wethers for our daughters to show in 4H and FFA. Well the girls have since moved on to college and their busy lives but it was to late. James & I were hooked. So much so that we even bought a bigger place so we could have even more of these beautiful animals.
We have traveled all over the Midwest showing our goats and they have done well in and out of the show ring. We have met so many wonderful goat people along the way.
We pick our breeding stock based on not only confirmation but mothering ability. We like the does that can have their kids hit the ground running. Our bucks are all easy to handle and that is very important to us.
Whether you are looking for a nice doe, buck or wether give us a call. Anytime we would be proud to show you our goats. You can me a call anytime at 641-990-7153

Just A Goat
From time to time people often tell me, "Lighten up, it's just a goat". Or, "That's a lot of money for just a goat". They don't understand the distance traveled, time spent or costs involved for "Just a Goat". Some of my proudest moments have come about with "Just a goat." Many hours have passed with my company being "Just a goat", and not once have I felt slighted. Some of my saddest moments were brought about by "Just a goat". In those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "Just a goat" provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day.
If you too think it's "Just a goat", you too will probably understand phrases like "Just a friend", "Just a sunrise" or "Just a promise". "Just a goat" brings into my life the very essense of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. "Just a goat" brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person. Because of "Just a goat" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly into the future. For me, and folks like me, it's not "Just a goat". It's an embodiment of all hopes, and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a goat" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope someday people can understand it's not "Just a goat". It's the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "Just a man" or "Just a woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase, "Just a goat", smile, because they "Just don't understand." * Author Unknown *
